Description

Eksistenz is a philosophical, international peer-reviewed journal. We publish original articles in the areas from hermeneutics, phenomenology to intercultural philosophy. Articles from other disciplines are also welcome, provided they can be reasonably justified as philosophical interpretations. Book reviews and interviews are likewise included. 

Focus Topics

We especially encourage submissions on the following topics:

  • Contemporary applications, future trajectories, and the broader significance of hermeneutics in the modern era

  • Theoretical explorations and practical investigations within Chinese hermeneutics

  • Developments and key challenges in intercultural hermeneutics and intercultural philosophy

Sections

Each issue contains original research articles on a specific philosophical topic. The journal has two sections:

  • the first on a specific topic (announced in advance in the call for papers)

  • the second as a Varia section, which includes book reviews and interviews

Languages

We accept submissions in English, German, and Chinese.

Eksistenz. Philosophical Hermeneutics and Intercultural Philosophy appears as an open access journal. It is firmly committed to the principles of open scholarship and provides immediate, barrier-free access to all published content, ensuring the democratization of academic​ knowledge. We employ the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which guarantees that copyright remains with the authors while permitting unrestricted sharing and reuse of published materials. Under this license, any user may freely access, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to full texts, incorporate content into datasets, or utilize the materials for any lawful purpose including commercial applications, with the sole requirement being proper attribution to the original authors through appropriate citation.

 

Eksistenz Vol. 3 (2024) has been published in September 2024 on the Issue of “Hermeneutics and Technology.”

Eksistenz Vol. 4 (2025) will be published in December 2025 on the Topic of “Hermeneutics and Ancient Greek Philosophy.”

Eksistenz – Call for Papers (2025, vol. 4)

Topic: Hermeneutics and Ancient Greek Philosophy

The philosophy journal Eksistenz is planning a special issue on “Hermeneutics and Ancient Greek Philosophy” for publication in December 2025. We are now accepting submissions from scholars worldwide. This issue will focus on exploring Ancient Greek philosophical texts and ideas from a hermeneutic perspective, aiming to uncover the profound connections between Ancient Greek philosophy and contemporary philosophical hermeneutics.

Possible research topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Hermeneutic interpretations of Ancient Greek philosophical texts.
  2. Reinterpretations of Ancient Greek philosophy by hermeneutic thinkers such as Heidegger and Gadamer.
  3. The significance of Ancient Greek philosophy in contemporary hermeneutics.
  4. Dialogues between hermeneutic methodologies and issues in Ancient Greek philosophy.
  5. Intersections of Ancient Greek philosophy and hermeneutics in fields such as ethics and political philosophy.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions can be in Chinese, German, or English.

  • Chinese manuscripts should be complete articles of 10,000-25,000 characters.
  • English and German manuscripts should be 5,000-12,500 words.
  • Format: Word document.

Submissions should include:

  • Article title
  • Author information
  • Abstract (approximately 200 words)
  • Keywords

Deadline: July 31, 2025

Additional Notes:

  • Submissions must be original and unpublished works.
  • All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review.
  • The editorial board reserves the right to edit submissions and may suggest revisions.
  • In addition to original research papers, we also publish translations. We welcome translations of important works related to the theme of this issue, including:
    • Chinese to English or German
    • German or English to Chinese

Translation Submission Requirements:

  • Translations must be authorized by the original author or copyright holder.
  • The original text must be a significant work in the field.
